International Year of Sustainable Energy -2012
Since 1959, the UN has designated International Years to draw attention to major issues that are of global importance, and to encourage concerted international action to address them. The UN General Assembly declared 2012 the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All.
This theme presents a valuable opportunity through out the year to raise awareness about the importance of increasing sustainable access to energy, energy efficiency, and renewable energy at the local, national, regional and international levels. Through this campaign we not only increase awareness but also find various solutions on access to energy (with the objective of universal access by 2030) that is, in addition, affordable, clean and safe.
This initiative will engage governments, the private sector, and civil society partners globally with the goal of achieving sustainable energy for all, and to reach three major objectives by 2030:
Ensuring universal access to modern energy services
Doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency
Doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix
To achieve theses objectives, Governments, Private Sector, Financial Sector, and Civil Society can makes commitment to concrete actions. High-Level Group, National Actions, Communications & Events and Practitioner Network are the Key Elements of the Initiative and the International Year.
Our cumulative actions and support can definitely make a difference… let’s become a part of the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All.
